Teaching from the Heart
We are all students in this game of life. In so many ways yoga is a broad, beautiful metaphor for life. Think less, do more. Slow down. Enjoy the moment. Breathe deeply.
I was first introduced to yoga at the tender age of 13. My mom took me to a class with her in Newport Beach, California, where I grew up. From that first Savasana I was hooked. I knew I had experienced something special, and I wanted more.
I continued taking classes sporadically as I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism at Boston University. My perspective shifted yet again when I took my first television job as a reporter in Ardmore, Oklahoma. After living there for a year, I became the weekend anchor at KTEN-TV (NBC) in Sherman, TX. Finally, I made my way to Austin and reported for News 8 Austin for two years.
My yoga had fallen by the wayside in all the long hours at the station. The infrequent class I did attend was like a sip of water in the desert. A taste of something I needed a whole lot more of in my life. So, true to form, I shook things up again--I left the news biz and got certified to teach yoga!
My 200-hour training at YogaWorks in Orange County, CA gave me not only the the tools to become a yoga teacher, but the tools I needed for this stage of my life. Upon returning to Austin I dove head-first into teaching...and have not looked back. What an amazing yoga community we have here in Austin! This is the most rewarding, enlightening, and joyful "job" I could ever want. I really can't even call it a job...it is more like a service I provide that swells my heart with gratitude and feeds my soul everyday. It is truly an honor and a gift to get to be a part of my students' yogic journeys. I am so thankful for each of you!
